My Approach to Physiotherapy

My Physiotherapy Career

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2000 and have a wealth of experience working in a variety of clinical settings. Including the public, private and elite sports sectors. My career started in Bromley Hospitals NHS trust where I specialised in musculo-skeletal and sports physiotherapy. Rehabbing complex spinal, shoulder and lower limb conditions. During this period I gained expertise treating both acute and chronic injuries. Along with a variety of post-surgical patients. In 2005 I moved into the private clinical sector, as well as working with Ipswich Town Football Academy.

Physiotherapy Approach

In 2008 I then ventured Down Under to complete a Masters at Curtin University in Perth. It was here that I gained extensive knowledge in the management of persistent (or chronic) pain, and developed a  interest in spinal, shoulder and lower limb conditions. During this time I was involved in publishing research investigating the links between posture and back pain. This has informed my highly effective holistic approach to the management of  back pain. Taking into consideration all factors that may contribute to a patient’s symptoms. Including not only the physical aspect of how an individual may move, but also their lifestyle, their beliefs, and their behavioural changes in response to pain.

I am very passionate about this 360 degree approach to pain management and have seen it achieve some truly wonderful successes for my patients. My research has also allowed me to develop a high level of skill in ergonomic assessment. Whether it be in an office setting, a manual job, playing sport, keeping fit or activities around the home. I am able to advise, coach or rehab as appropriate.

I have strong links with many of the top consultants in the area receiving referrals for a variety of injuries, including fractures and surgical patients. In particular, but not exclusively related to foot & ankle, knee, shoulder and spinal complaints. If you have questions about a particular issue, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your issue.

Lifestyle

Outside of work I like to keep active! You may see me cycling around Portobello on my commute from Richmond or find me out in the Surrey hills at the weekends on a long bike ride. Occasionally I will compete in the odd half marathon or even triathlon. And yes swimming in the Serpentine in May is cold! I am a rugby enthusiast and enjoy training with my local team and playing touch when I can. I have two young daughters who take up any remaining free time that I might have!
